I’m Karen Moate and the Creative Director here at The Ambitions Agency.
I’ve always been passionate about user centric design; design for me isn’t about creating a superficial mask, it has to function – to carry the brand essence and values consistently and clearly in its DNA. It creates a connection and improves the relationship between organisations and the people that interact with them. Good design is empowering, reassuring and solves problems.
My career started in information design where the focus was to translate complex information and offerings into carefully considered communications to deliver brand experience. I worked at the Information Design Unit which was the UK’s largest information design agency. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn from the country’s leading experts. In collaboration with team members and other agencies we were designing for most household names in the UK across a number of sectors. From BT, British Gas, The Scout Association, NHS, Bupa, Design Council and The Post Office. The company was then acquired by WPP and became part of Enterprise IG – since renamed to Brand Union.
After I left IG, I spent a number of years travelling extensively while freelancing as a website designer and developer and studying Buddhist meditation. Before settling back in Devon where I joined the team at Logo Design.
When not at work I attend frequent meditation retreats and festivals. I also love to paddleboard and generally hang out on the water (with my trusted flask of coffee!).
